Abstract (EN)

In this study, a number of cooking has been made in order to determine the optimum conditions for the pulp and paper production from the straws and leaves of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor X S. bicolor var. sudanense) by NaOH method after literature review and taking NaOH rate %14 - %16 - %18 - %20, solution / straw ratio 5 / 1, cooking temperature 120-130 ?C and cooking time 60 min. as constant.8 cookings have been carried out to determine the optimum cooking parameters in aforementioned conditions. At the end of the cooking trials, pulp yield of the temperature ratio with NaOH; kappa number and paper obtained from the physical, mechanical and optical properties have been examined. During the cooking, kappa number and sifted pulp yield have been ascertained to decrease when NaOH ratio used for cooking increased. Also, when NaOH ratio has increased, the brightness, smoothness, deletion length, air permeability, opacity, tear index and whiteness values have generally increased while printing opacity and paper thickness values have decreased. The chemical composition of sorghum stalks, solubility and fiber morphology have also been investigated in this study. As a result, optimum cooking method of pulp production conditions by NaOH method from the stems and leaves of Sorghum have been determined that when cooking temperature has been taken 120 ?C, NaOH rate %20, solution / straw ratio 5 / 1 and cooking time has been applied 60 min.
