A study on toponyms in Bashkir epics

Epics are the texts that stem from the events which leave profound impacts on the lives of communities. These events come into existence with person, time and place elements. Toponymy is the field which analyzes the names of places. In this study, the toponymies that appear in Bashkir epic are reviewed. This study consist of introduction, four main sections, conclusion and the bibliography. After giving information about the thesis in the introduction section, the history of Bashkirs and the Bashkir epics are handled. Subsequently, onomastics and the topic of toponymy which is a sub-branch of it are mentioned. In the first section of this study the oykonymies, in the second sections the horonymies, in the third section the hydronymies and in the fourth and last section the oronymies that are found in these epics are classified. Within the conclusion part, the attained data are evaluated. Key Words: Bashkirs, Epics, Onomastics, Toponymy
