Black-topped bowls in the West and Central Anatolian Early Bronze Age

The purpose of the thesis is to put forward the development and spread of the Black topped-bowls during the Early Bronze Age in Western and Central Anatolia. Black-topped bowls, occuring for the first time in Late Chalcolithic period and being an important ware group for Western Anatolia as from the EBA I are generally seen in EBA II-III in Central Anatolia, except in Alişar as from the EBA I. Black –topped bowls are produced by a special firing technique developped as its own. These bowls have an important role in order to establish as well as compare the stratigraphies of the sites that they have found. While Black-topped bowls occur in Eastern Anatolia, especially on Maraş-Elbistan plains in the Early Bronze Age I-II, they are not very widespread in Central Anatolia. Inland Northwestern Anatolia is the region that they are most common. The development of black-topped bowls can be seen in a comprehensive and detailed manner in the region at the site of Demircihöyük which also gave its name to the Demircihöyük pottery zone.
