Abstract (EN)

This study started in June 2014 and ended in May 2015 which is determined some water quality parameters and the dirty situation of Batlama Creek, poured to forth the sea at the city centre in Giresun. The study was continued in 12 months. The water samples were collected monthly from three stations which were fixed. The water quality parameters of; dissolved oxygen, oxygen saturation rate, pH, temperature, salinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), conductivity, chlorophyll-a, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total alkalinity, total hardness, total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), ammonium (NH4), ammoniac (NH3), total phosphate(TP), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), total suspended solids (TSS), Nitrate and sediment pH were measured. The means obtained data were as follow; dissolved oxygen 10,65 mgL-1, oxygen saturation rate 99,67 %, pH 8,25, temperature 11,54°C, salinity 0,12 ppt, TDS 168,66 mgL-1, conductivity 203,92 µScm-1, spesific conductivity 266,00 µScm-1, ORP -77,25 mV, BOD 1,52 mgL-1, total alkalinity 103,66 mgL-1, total hardness 125,58 mgL-1, chlorophyll-a 2,37 µgL-1, TAN 0,34 mgL-1, NH4 0,29 mgL-1, NH3 0,052 mgL-1, TP 0,122 mgL-1, SRP 0,022 mgL-1, TSS 40,94 mgL-1, Nitrate 1,83 mgLˉ¹ and sediment pH 7,75 . Obtained data showed that the water quality of Batlama Creek may suitable for agricultural activities and may be a suitable living habitat for the living beings. Total Phosphorus and ammonium nitrogen level of Batlama Creek were less contaminated water while the dissolved oxygen saturation is the high-quality water class. Batlama Creek may be classified as clean water and has no threat regarding to rest of the detected parameters.
