Examining soil properties of Batman province and its vicinity with microtremor method

Abstract (EN)
Microtremor method, which is used to learn about the soil behavior and soil-structure interaction both before and after the earthquake, has recently been used as a widespread method and it has become important in geophysical methods due to being easily applicable, fast and economic. Dynamic parameters and changes of the ground, dynamic behavior properties of the formations in the soil section and vulnerability can be determined with microtremor method. Soil amplification and soil dominant period parameters that are used in soil examinations can be identified with micro-tremor method in a fast and economic manner. In this thesis study, micro-tremor records of the Batman province and its vicinity obtained with microtremor method were evaluated and interpreted by considering the geological structure of the area. In the study, the measurements were made with 3-component seismometer, the data were analyzed with Horizontal/Vertical Spectral Ratio (Nakamura) technique in Geopsy software and soil dominant frequency was tried to be determined by considering the known geology of the area and the depth of the study. In the second part of the study, dominant frequency and the lithology that forms the soil were evaluated together, the dominant frequency maps of the area were drawn and the relation between the geology of the area and obtained microtremor measurements were interpreted and discussed. In the measurements made in the West Raman campus site, finding dominant frequency values as 5 Hz and above in points except the points numbered three, four, six, eight and twelve and finding period values below 0,2 seconds showed that the unit dominant in the West Raman Campus area was faulted, moderate-weak competent limestone unit with occasional clay bands. In the measurements made in Kültür and Pazaryeri quarters, finding dominant frequency values around 1 Hz in the points numbered one, three, six, seven and eight showed that the area was characterized with a weak sediment layer; however, determining the soil as weak competent according to the results of the other points showed that there may be a gap or faulting extending in this region to the northwest-southeast. Soil dominant periods of the Gap and Bahçelievler quarters changed between 0,2-0,4 seconds according to the microtremor records. Since the dominant unit of the region is late alluvium, it is seen that it is consistent with the measurement results. In the model showing sediment thickness, the current geological conditions exactly match with the late alluvium layer.
