Abstract (EN)
The determination of the appropriate residential areas aims for raising economical and social welfare levels of the countries in terms of regional and local context to higher levels, minimising the effects of the natural disasters that bring about the loss of lives and properties. The Batman province faces both emigration and immigration together with the improvement of the economical and social levels and with that of the increase in the industrialization. This results in unplanned, unbalanced and to an extent dangerous settlement in Batman, the level terrains of which take place in high altitudes. Pracautions are vital to take in Batman to avoid the urbanization fact that the natural disastrous could not be predetermined. In this study, the determination of the appropriate residential areas were decided utilizing the Geographic Information System.Locational data layers such as lithology, slope, aspectand land cover were converted into numeric datum and then were gathered in the database. All those datum were converted into raster data and were made usable in GIS analyse. The analyses for each layer and subvalue in terms of determining the convenient residential areas were computed through Analytic Hierarchy Method (AHM). The masses of all layers were calculated separately via analyses, and analysed in GIS. In this manner, the map for the appropriate residential areas for Batman was produced
