Investigation of the relationship between media literacy perception levels of physical education teacher candidates and online information search strategies

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the media literacy perception levels of physical education and sports teacher candidates and their online information search strategies. Relational research model, one of the survey models, was used in the research. It consists of 1112 undergraduate students studying in the physical education and sports teaching departments of universities in the Western Black Sea region. The sample of the study consists of 230 undergraduate students studying in the physical education and sports teaching departments of universities in the Western Black Sea region. "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researchers as data collection tool in the research, "Media Literacy Perception Scale (MOAÖ) developed by Özel and Sarı (2018)" and "Online" developed by Tsa (2009) and adapted into Turkish by Aşkar and Mazman (2013). Information Search Strategies Inventory (ÇBASE)" was used. As a result of the normal distribution of the data in the analyzes performed using the SPSS-24 package program, descriptive statistical analyzes were performed, as well as pearson correlation analysis, independent groups t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). As a result of the answers given by the pre-service teachers to the media literacy perception scale; It was determined that there was no difference between the total and sub-dimensions of gender, class, daily internet usage time, the media tool used for the course and the status of taking a media literacy course before. As a result of the answers given by the pre-service teachers to the Online Information Search Strategies Inventory; It has been determined that there is no difference between the total and sub-dimensions of the variables of daily internet usage time in the classroom, the media tool used for the course and the status of taking a media literacy course before. However, a significant difference was found in trial and error, which is the sub-dimension of the scale, according to the gender variable, but no difference was found regarding the other sub-dimensions and the overall scale.
