An examination of the self-esteem and professional self-esteem levels of physical education teachers based on various variables: Ağri province example

The purpose of this research; to investigate whether there is a significant difference between the self-esteem and professional self-esteem scores of physical education and sports teachers in terms of various variables and whether there is a significant relationship between the self-esteem scores of physical education teachers and their professional self-esteem scores. The universe of the research consists of 402 physical education and sports teachers working in Ağrı in the 2020-2021 academic year. The sample of the research is composed of 319 physical education and sports teachers, 94 (29.5%) women and 225 (70.5%) men working in Ağrı. The research data were collected on the internet via Google forms. "Personal Information Form", "Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale" and "Arıcak Occupational Self-Number Scale" were applied to the participants in the study. Data analysis was done using SPSS package program. The distribution of the data was examined with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and the differences between the groups were examined with the Mann Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests, since they did not show a normal distribution, and the Spearman correlation test was used to examine the relationship between the groups. Significance levels were evaluated according to p <0.05. As a result of the analysis; self-esteem and status of physical education teachers; A significant difference was found between professional self-esteem and variables of age, years of service, status, level, voluntary doing the profession and regular sports (p <0.05). In addition, it was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between self-esteem and professional self-esteem levels at p <0.01. As a result, it was determined that the self-esteem and professional self-esteem of the physical education teachers who constitute the research group are at a high level, and as the self-esteem increases, the professional self-esteem increases.
