Determining the organizational cynicism levels of physical education teachers

In this study, it is aimed to determine the organizational cynicism levels of physical education teachers, assess these levels based on their demographical characteristics and compare their cynicism levels with the teachers from other branches. Totally 260 teachers, including 130 (29 female and 101 male) physical education teachers and 130 (66 female and 64 male) other branch teachers, working under the Çorum Provincial Directorate of National Education in the 2018-2019 academic year participated in the study. In order to collect data, the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the author was used for collecting demographic information in the first part and the "Organizational Cynicism Scale" adapted in Turkish by Kalağan (2009) in the second part. Collected data was tested through the SPSS software and the level of significance was found as 0.05. Normal distribution examination of the data was done through the Kolmogrov Smirnov test. As the data did not show any normal distribution, a non-parametric test, the Mann- Whitney U analysis, was used. As a result of the collected data and conducted analyses, no significant difference was found for physical education teachers with respect to their gender, age, disciplinary punishment and term of service (p>0.05). Significant difference was determined in their level of satisfaction from being a teacher in the active sport variable in cognitive respect (p<0.05). No difference was observed for the other branch teachers with regards to the variable of gender in affective respect, the variable of age in cognitive and behavioral respects, the variable of satisfaction from being a teacher in cognitive and behavioral respects, the variable of disciplinary punishment in cognitive and affective respects, the variables of term of service and active sport in affective respect (p>0.05). It was concluded for other branch teachers that the variable of gender has significant difference in cognitive and behavioral respects, the variable of age in affective respect, the variable of disciplinary punishment in behavioral respect and the variable of active sport in cognitive and behavioral respects (p<0.05). In conclusion, no significant difference was observed between the physical education teachers and other branch teachers and it was determined that the cynicism levels of all teachers were under average.
