Examination of the needs of the physical education teachers sample of Iğdır province

The purpose of this research is to examine the basic psychological needs of physical Education and Sports Teachers working in Igdir province center. While the study population consists of 91 physical education and sports teachers working in different schools in the province of Iğdır in the academic year of 2017-2018, the sample group consists of 83 physical education and sports teachers including 26 women and 57 men who can be accessed and surveyed. In this study, a scanning model was used to describe the current situation. Scanning models are research approaches aimed at describing a past or present situation as it exists. (Karasar, 2007: 77). The "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher as a data collection tool and the "Basic Psychological Needs" scale developed by Deci and Ryan (2000) and adapted to Turkish in 2003 by Kesici, Ure, Bozgeyikli and Sünbül were used. The scale consists of three sub-dimensions. These three dimensions are as follows: 1. The need for Autonomy 2. The need for Competence 3. The need for Relationship The Data obtained from the study were analyzed by SPSS 20 program. Descriptive statistical methods (Number, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation) were used when the data were evaluated. When the analyzes were made, the appropriateness of the normal distribution of the data was checked and it was determined that the normal distribution was appropriate. In comparing quantitative data, the difference between the two groups was analyzed by t-test. In cases where the number of persons falling into the groups was less than 30, Kruskal Wallis H-Test and Mann Whitney-U test were applied in the comparative analyzes. One way Anova test was applied in the comparison of parameters between groups in the case of more than two groups. The Mann Whitney-U test was used for further analysis to determine which groups the differences originated from. The findings were evaluated at the 95% confidence range and at the 5% significance level. In the analyzes, values at p <0.05 level were considered to be statistically significant. According to the results obtained from the research; when the basic psychological needs of the teachers are assessed; There was no statistically significant relationship between gender, age, marital status, owning child, education level, status, administrative task and income level. According to the duty period variable, there is a significant relationship in the subscale of relationship need, according to teacher preference variable in Proficiency need subscale, and in the subscale of autonomy need according to daily work stress evaluation variable. As a result, when the basic psychological needs of physical education and sports teachers are evaluated, it is seen that the increase of the duty period is parallel to the increase of the need for the relationship, the need of the teachers who do not choose voluntarily increase the need for self- In the light of this information, it can be expressed as a suggestion that the basic psychological needs should not be ignored depending on the knowledge that the emotional needs of the physical education and sports teachers are taken into account when providing the proficiency in performing the teaching profession.
