Abstract (EN)

Bile/Yazdı, the work of an independent poet of Modern Turkish poetry Behçet Necatigil, which he published in 1976, comprising of his poem lines and prose, has a unique standing in Turkish Literature with its approach of problematizing the poem and the poet. The most outstanding attributions of Bile/Yazdı are the sticking out of ?the poet? as the subject that makes up the poem, and the consideration of all concepts such as poetic language, society, tradition, and modernity in terms of this subject. The aim of this thesis is to determine what is meant by ?an ideal poet? in Behçet Necatigil?s poetry, and in this light, to determine the dynamics that lead the poet to such an understanding by evaluating the poet?s relationship to tradition, to society and to his own ?self?, and then to elaborate on the causality of these relationships. This thesis, which asserts that the poetry of Necatigil is established firmly through telescoped units, is comprised of three sections. In the first section, the relationship of ?the poet? to tradition is analyzed by dividing it into such phases as ?recognition?, ?understanding?, and ?transformation.? In the second section, in which the relationship of the poet to society is analyzed; Necatigil?s attitude towards ?society?, ?the age?, and ?the reader?, which can be projected as his most criticized feature, is evaluated, along with the issue of what kind of an interaction is furnished by such dynamics during the process in which he makes up his poem. In the last section, in which the feature that makes Necatigil unique, his ?personality?, is evaluated and in which the relationship that the poet establishes between him and his own ?self? is elucidated with its various dimensions, the reasons for and the ways in which the transformation of the entity, which is established by and changed with the poem, is accentuated. Behçet Necatigil is a poet, who in his poetry, enriches his poems and his personality through the heritage of tradition, and who establishes a poetry workshop that is distillated with contemporaneous and social issues, and therefore, who carries his poetry into a modern light. Keywords: Poetry, Ottoman poetry, society, tradition, modern.
