Examining the predictive relationships between emerging adults' psychological symptoms and perceptions of alienation

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between alienation and psychological symptoms in emerging adults. The study group of the research consists of 502 students between the ages of 18-26 studying at Aksaray University. The research was conducted with the relational scanning model. Personal Information Form, Brief Symptoms Inventory and Alienation Perception Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. Statistical analysis of the research was done with the SPSS program. T Test, Anova, Pearson Correlation and Simple Linear Regression analysis were used to analyze the data. According to the findings obtained from the research, while the perception of alienation in emerging adults does not differ significantly according to gender, age, grade level, parental union status and mother's education level, it is seen that it differs significantly in terms of perceived income level and father's education level. According to the correlation results; a positive significant relationship was determined between psychological symptoms of powerlessness, normlessness, meaninglessness, low self-awareness and low social interest. According to the regression analysis results; it was determined that psychological symptoms predicted powerlessness, normlessness, meaninglessness, awareness and social interest. Finally, in the light of the findings of the study, suggestions were made to researchers and practitioners by discussing them with the existing literature.
