Investigating of the predictive effect of intolerance of uncertainty and cognitive flexibility levels on psychological symptoms

In this study, it was investigated whether intolerance of uncertainty and cognitive flexibility levels had a predictive effect on psychological symptoms. A total of 516 university students, consisting of 398 females and 118 males, studying in different departments and selected with the appropriate sampling method, participated in the study. Personal Information Form, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Cognitive Flexibility Inventory and Brief Symptom Inventory were used as measurement tools in the study. According to the results of the analysis, it was found that cognitive flexibility levels were higher in men, and the levels of intolerance of uncertainty and psychological symptoms did not differ according to the gender variable. On the other hand, it was found that there was a positive correlation between intolerance of uncertainty and psychological symptoms sub-dimensions, and a negative and significant relationship between cognitive flexibility and psychological symptoms sub-dimensions. It was also found that both intolerance of uncertainty and cognitive flexibility had a predictive effect on psychological symptoms. It has been discussed according to the findings within the scope of the information obtained from the literature.
