Abstract (EN)

In this study, calculations of gasoline engines were made with the help of MATLAB programming language. Since engine design requires very complex calculations and the motors have a history of about 130-140 years, the design is based on an empirical calculation method based on the use of knowledge of the design of similar engines from the past. Since the design calculations contain a large number of empirical formulas and coefficients to be selected, the idea that these operations can be performed more easily and quickly with a computer program has been effective in this thesis. The essence of the study is based on "Engine Elements Design" course prepared by Prof. Dr. Orhan DURGUN in the Automotive Engineering Department of KTU Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering. The program generally has an iterative approach. When the program is run, the engine is designed (such as economic middle class or high performance power etc.) the engine speed (in rpm), power (in kW) and compression ratio information is entered. The program is expected to make the necessary calculations and draw graphs. As a result of the calculations, if some values do not appear in the standard value ranges of similar motors, the program gives a warning and requests the necessary arrangements to be made. As a result of the adjustments made, the program is run again and the desired values and new graphs are obtained. Each topic's own results are saved in a separate text document „.txt‟. Instead of running the MATLAB program, these „.txt‟ documents can be used each time to see the values.
