Abstract (EN)

This research was designed as a randomized controlled trial to investigate whether the order of administration of the 5-valent and pneumococcal vaccines affects pain responses in infants. The study sample consisted of 146 infants who applied for quintuple vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine in a Family Health Center between 21.03.2024 and 29.08.2024. Data in the study were collected using the Newborn and Parent Identification Form and the FLACC Pain Scale Form. SPSS 27 package program was used in the analysis of the data of the participants whose written and verbal consents were obtained. According to the obtained data, the mean age of the infants in the quintuple + pneumococcal group was 2.86±0.99 months and in the pneumococcal + 5-valent group it was 2.93±1.01 months and there was no significant difference between the groups. According to the researcher scores, it was determined that the pain scores of the babies in the Pneumococcus+5 mixed group were higher before the procedure, during the 1st vaccination, after the 1st vaccination and during the 2nd vaccination, and that the pain scores were higher in the 5-drug+pneumococcus group after the 2nd vaccination; according to the midwife/nurse scores, the pain scores were higher in the Pneumococcus+5 mixed group in all procedures, and according to the parent scores, the pain scores of the babies in the Pneumococcus+5 mixed group were higher before the procedure, during the 1st vaccination, after the 1st vaccination and after the 2nd vaccination, and that the pain scores of the babies in the 5-drug+pneumococcus group during the 2nd vaccination were higher. Keywords: Pain perception, Infant, Pentavalent vaccine, Pneumococcal vaccine.
