Abstract (EN)

In this thesis study, the effect of beam discontinuity on the behavior of structure in concrete buildings was examined. For this purpose, 4 structure models were prepared. In the Model 1, which is the reference for the other models, there is no cantilever or beam discontinuity (Regular Model-1). In Model 2 with Cantilever, 150cm cantilevers were added to all four fronts of the building. In Model 3 with Cantilever and Beam Discontinuity, 12 of the surrounding frame beams of Model 2 were removed in order to create beam discontinuity. In Model 4 with Cantilever and Beam Discontinuity, some of the beams at the ends of cantilever were removed. Representing the low and mid-high buildings constituting the majority of buildings in our country and being damaged in earthquake at highest level, 3-, 5-, and 7-storey buildings (4 models in each) were created. The analyses of 12 models in total were performed using İdeCAD Static 7 package program and the results were interpreted. In this study, the earthquake analyses of the buildings with continuous and discontinuous frame beams were compared. Increases up to 6.4% in period values, 18.4% in top displacements of the buildings, 21.8% in relative interstory drift, 20.3% in second order effects, 11% in shear forces on the beams, and 18.9% in momentum values were observed. It was suggested that the beam discontinuity should be considered in earthquake regulations and a provision should be provided.
