Comparison of analysis and design of a reinforced concrete building according to 2007 and 2018 earthquake regulations

Abstract (EN)
In this study, in order to compare how the limits and conditions in TEC 2007 which was abolished, changed according to the new earthquake regulation TBEC 2018, a building with a carrier system consisting of 5-storey reinforced concrete frames and without irregularities was analyzed by the Sta4-cad program. Thus, the values were compared by using the mode combination method. According to each of the relevant regulations, 4 earthquake analyzes were made taking into account the best and worst soil classes. In some cases, it was also evaluated how different concrete classes would change the results. In the first section, some academic studies similar to the subject of the study were summarized, then the main changes between TEC 2007 and TBEC 2018 and some important regulation definitions were mentioned. After giving information about the building and analysis in the second section, in the third section, the findings obtained as a result of the analysis were interpreted and compared under the headings of "Design Acceleration Spectrum and Earthquake Forces, Building Period, Column Normal Force Capacity Control, Strong Column Control, Column-Beam Joint Shear Safety, Column Shear Safety, Beam Shear Safety and Relative Story Displacement Values". In the last section, conclusions and recommendations were given. According to the limit conditions of the regulation more ductile structures were aimed by decreasing the limit value of the axial force on the columns in TBEC 2018. When the results were examined in general, it has been seen that the effective section rigidity is an important factor in increasing the building period and relative story displacement values according to the the new regulation. However, due to the earthquake forces decaresed on the best soil class and increased on the worst soil class in TBEC 2018 compared to TEC 2007, it has been understood that no generalization can be made about how the earthquake force values will change according to the old regulation and the soil class is an important criterion in this regard.
