Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it is aimed to determine the optimum number and location of sensors used in structural health monitoring of building type structures. For this purpose, a computer program has been created that works effectively with MATLAB programming language, Rao-1 algorithm and SAP2000 OAPI features. By using this program, optimum sensor placement of two- or three-dimensional building type structures whose finite element models are created in the SAP2000 program can be realized. Within the scope of this thesis, the optimum sensor placement of a 10-storey two-dimensional lumped mass system and a 4-storey and 20-storey three-dimensional frame system was determined with the created program. For optimum sensor placement, max-MAC, avg-MAC, and rms-MAC methods derived from the modal assurance criterion were considered as the objective function in the optimization process. This thesis generally consists of four parts. In the first part, previous studies on the subject are summarized by emphasizing the importance of sensor placement, which is the first step of the structural health monitoring system. In the second part, the structural properties and finite element model of the selected samples are introduced. In the third part, data obtained from selected samples are presented. In the fourth part, the results are summarized, and suggestions are given.
