Investigation of the prevalence of Eimeria species and Toxocara vitulorum according to faecal examination in calves in Bingöl region

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Eimeria species and Toxocara vitulorum in calves in Bingöl region. Within the scope of the study, faecal samples of 213 calves under 6 months of age were collected from 17 different villages in Solhan district of Bingöl province. Faecal samples taken from the rectum of the animals were examined for the presence of Eimeria sp. oocysts and Toxocara vitulorum using the flotation method in the Parasitology Laboratories of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Bingöl University. Of the 213 calf faeces examined, Eimeria sp. oocysts were detected in 78 (36.6%) and Toxocara vitulorum eggs in 80 (37.5%). The detected species included E. alabamensis (5.12%), E.zuernii (16.66%), E.ellipsoidalis (16.66%), E.subspherica (8.97%), E.auburnensis (12.82%), E.cylindrica (23.07%), E.wyomingensis (2.56%), E.brasiliensis (5.12%), and E.bovis (8.97%). The most commonly found species was E.cylindrica (23.07%), while the least commonly found species was E.wyomingensis (2.56%). Keywords: Bingöl, Calf, Eimeria, Toxocara vitulorum, Prevalence
