Abstract (EN)

Most of world energy demand provides from petroleum. Besides, since considerable amount of petroleum consumption are in engine vehicle, researches increase their attempts to find alternative energy sources. One of major reason of environmental pollution is car which emits emissions. Emission standard values gradually decrease and this forces to use low emission engine fuels. Easy accessibility, secure storage and low emission value of LPG arouse interest especially in automotive industry. In this work, engine performance, combustion and emission of test fuels have been investigated with LPG fumigation into manifold in the diesel engine as secondary fuel. Tests were carried out in 4 cylinders, 4 strokes water-cooled, direct-injection diesel-engined generator. According to the test results; cylinder pressure, exhaust gas temperature and possibility of knocking increased as amount of LPG increased. Besides, brake specific fuel consumption and mass fuel consumption were higher. Generally, with LPG addition, CO and HC emissions were higher. up to 40% LPG addition, CO2 emission were low and over 40% LPG addition, CO2 emission increased. On the other hand, generally, as LPG content increased, O2 emission decreased significantly. Generally, the usage of LPG up to certain levels in diesel engines found to be possible as addition fuel. Because its usage in the engine up to certain levels were not resulted in considerable changes in performance, combustion and emissions changes.
