The frequency of menopausal symptoms in nurses over the age of 40 working in a hospital and the effect of these symptoms on quality of life and work productivity

In this study, it was aimed to determine the frequency of menopausal symptoms in nurses over the age of 40 and the effect of these symptoms on quality of life and work efficiency. The research was carried out between March 2021 and January 2022. The population of the study consisted of nurses over the age of 40, and the sample consisted of 184 nurses. The data were collected using the Socio-Demographic Information Form, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (WHOQoL-Bref), the Menopausal Symptoms Assessment Scale, and the Nursing Work Life Quality Scale (HIYKO) through face-to-face survey data collection method by the researcher. According to the menopausal symptoms assessment scale, the participants got 6.38±2.75 points from the psychological complaints sub-dimension, 11.57±4.33 points from the somatic complaints sub-dimension, 5.85±3.41 points from the urological complaints sub-dimension, and 23.78±9.54 points from the MSDS total. It can be said that the severity of menopausal symptoms of nurses is moderate. According to the nursing work life quality scale, the participants scored 27.75±6.72 points from the work-work environment sub-dimension, 16.49±3.04 points from the sub-dimension of relations with the manager, 30.37±3.09 points from the sub-dimension of working conditions, 24.96±4.40 points from the sub-dimension of work perception, and 13.85 points from the support services sub-dimension. They got ±3.08 points and 113.43±16.01 points from the total of the scale. It was determined that the menopausal symptoms of the nurses were moderate, and the menopause symptoms negatively affected the work life and quality of life of the nurses.
