Abstract (EN)

With the development of technology, the need for energy has increased same in parallel and continues to increase. Energy use in our country has increased by 4.5% on average every year in recent years. Turkey has reached a total installed capacity of renewable energy to 50% on 2018 year. Although the rate decreases over the years, we still have 50% dependence on foreign sources. The share of renewable energy sources in production should increase in order to reduce dependence on foreign sources. Among renewable energy sources Hydraulic energy, is at the forefront in terms of generating electricity between renewable energy sources with approximately 68%. Hydraulic energy is the first preferred energy production method due to the low energy production cost and the high hydraulic potential in our country. Although almost all of the hydroelectric power plants in our country are foreign production, studies have started to be carried out in the domestic production industry in recent years, but they have not reached a sufficient level yet. In this thesis, Francis turbine design, which is widely used in hydraulic power plants, is designed to determine the necessary parameters and empirical expressions, what should be known when designing the turbine and what are the issues to be considered. Within the scope of the thesis, various definitions, classifications, characteristic information for Francis turbine design and parameters required for Turbine Spiral Case, Runner and Draft Tube sizing are given and dimensional calculation of turbine part used in a hydroelectric power plant is made.
