Abstract (EN)
In this study, a risk analysis was carried out within the scope of occupational health and safety (OHS) in a central research and application laboratory of a university. 14 units were examined separately in the Central Research Laboratory. The aim was to determine the hazards in the laboratory environment, to evaluate the risks that these hazards may pose and to recommend preventive/corrective activities. The risk analysis was performed with the 5x5 Matrix and Fine-Kinney methods and these two methods were compared. While the 5x5 matrix method is based on probability and severity parameters, the Fine-Kinney method offers a more detailed and sensitive analysis opportunity by including the frequency component in addition to these two parameters. A total of 105 hazards were identified in the laboratory and these hazards were analyzed with both methods. It was observed that all risks identified with the matrix method were reduced to an acceptable level by 100%. However, the method has disadvantages such as giving the same risk score in different combinations. In contrast, the Fine-Kinney method provided a wider evaluation range and produced more realistic results. As a result of the study, it was determined that the Fine-Kinney method is more suitable for complex and high-risk environments such as laboratories, and it was also suggested that more than one method should be evaluated together for effective risk management in workplaces. The thesis also provides concrete contributions to increasing OHS awareness, fulfilling legal obligations and creating safe working environments.
