Relationship between individuals' value orientations and their levels of self-control

In this study, relationship between university students' value orientation and their level of self-control was investigated. Sample of the research consists of 509 students who have been educated in Hasan Kalyoncu University. Personal Information Form, Values Scale which was developed by Dilmaç, Arıcak and Cesur and Turkish version of Brief Self-Control Scale were used as data collection tools. Results of analysis showed that intellectual, materialistic and career values predict self-control significantly. One standard deviation increment in intellectual, career and materialistic values' scores cause respectively 0.19 and 0.21 standard deviation increment and 0.21 standard deviation decline in self-control level. Also, participants' values differentiate in sex, faculty in which participant have been educated, class and mother education level and don't differentiate in father education level, current living place and place where they mostly spend their life. Study's findings were argued according to literature.
