Abstract (EN)

Today, such factors as the rapid increase of electricity energy consumption, the fact that the used resources are fossil fuels, the limited reserve of these resources and external dependence raise the importance attached to renewable energy sources. Furthermore, such problems as global warming resulting from the greenhouse impact emerging with the use of fossil resources and the deterioration of air quality are the other factors putting renewable energy resources into the limelight. In this thesis study, the feasibility of meeting electric energy need of Kırklareli University Kayalı Campus Central Classroom-2 using more than one renewable energy resources has been analyzed. It has been ascertained from TUIK and YEGM data that the most appropriate energy sources of Kırklareli with respect to renewable energy resources potential are wind, solar and biomass. In this context, a study has been carried out over how to meet the energy need of Central Classroom-2 with hybrid renewable power generation system formed by using wind, solar abd biomass energy resources. For this purpose, in order to determine the most suitable hybrid renwable power system that can meet the electric load of Central Classroom-2, HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewables) software was developed by NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), and it is a software which is advised and makes the comparative economic analysis of production systems and sorts the systems according to their total net present cost. Despite its higher investment cost, a system can be more economic considering its lifetime cost. HOMER software can also achieve sensitivity analysis for the analyzed system where the values of certain parameters can be changed. In this study, after ascertaining the most suitable hybrid power generation system through using HOMER software, the techno-economic analysis of this system will be performed. Besides, using biomass resource ($/ton), wind speed (m/s) and solar radiation (kWh/m2/day)variables, sensitivity analysis will be conducted. The whole thesis consists of six chapters In the first chapter, the purpose and scope of thesis will be declared. In the second chapter, the potential of renewable energy sources in the world, Turkey and Kirklareli have been handled. In the third chapter, detailed information will be given about wind, solar and biomass energy technologies. In the fourth chapter, the summary of the studies in the literature regarding wind/photovoltaic/biomass/battery hybrid renewable power systems will be presented. In the fifth chapter, HOMER software will be introduced and the determination of techno-economic parameters for hybrid systems will be discussed. In the sixth chapter, modellling of the system components used in photovoltaic/wind/biomass/battery hybrid power generation system configurations for Kırklareli University Kayalı campus will be achieved. In the seventh chapter, wind/biomass/battery, photovoltaic/biomass/battery, wind/photovoltaic/battery, wind/photovoltaic/biomass/battery and network connected wind/photovoltaic/biomass/battery hybrid renewable power production systems will be modelled and their techno-economic analyses will be made. In the last chapter, the comparative analysis of of hybrid renewable power generation systems will be made and the results to be obtained from the analysis will be scrutinized.
