Abstract (EN)
Occupational accidents and occupational diseases came to the fore with the Industrial Revolution, and the importance of occupational accidents and occupational diseases continued to increase with industrialization and technological developments. Despite all the arrangements made, the issue still continues to be important. According to the statistics of the International Labor Organization (ILO), an average of one million workers have occupational accidents every day. Five thousand five hundred workers die due to work accidents and occupational diseases. Occurrence of work accidents and occupational diseases is due to the lack of adequate and necessary health and safety measures in the workplace. Failure to take precautions not only threatens the health and lives of employees but also causes great financial losses to the country's economy and businesses. For this reason, it is obvious that significant gains will be achieved by taking OHS measures in workplaces. The purpose of occupational health and safety is to protect employees, businesses and production. Although it is a subject that has existed since the first human started production and its history dates back to ancient times, laws and regulations related to the subject could only be enacted in 2012 in Türkiye. Healthcare businesses, which have a very complex structure, have a very important place in terms of occupational safety due to their advanced technology, labor-intensive work, being in the very dangerous class and providing 24/7 service. The OHS issue aimed in the project and occupational diseases encountered in business life affect the entire life of the employees. It can cause the end of their working life or serious, permanent health problems. One of the issues that can cause these occupational diseases is the biological risk factors that are exposed in working life. In this thesis, the importance of biological risk factors that can be encountered in business life is emphasized, and the risk factors of parasites exposed to these biological risk factors and basic OHS practices in the workplace are examined. The main objective of the study is to reveal the additional measures that employers should take. Literature research has been conducted in line with the stated goal, and the information has been analyzed.
