The etiological and demographic characteristics of cirrhotic patients in our region

AIM: In this study, it is aimed to determine the etiologic and demographic characteristics of cirrhotic patients and the change of these characteristic in time. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Our study included 505 patients who admitted to Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology ofAdnanMenderes University,Faculty of Medicine, between 2000-2014 diagnosed liver cirrhosis.These patients' records were scanned retrospectively and demographic characteristics, etiologic factors, compensational situations and complications were investigated. INDICATIONS: Our study included 505 patients who diagnosed liver cirrhosis between 2000-2014 years.The mean age ofpatients was61, 111,7 years and42,8%of the participants were women and57,2%were male.38,4 % of patients in our study were Child A, 39,6 % were Child B and 20,1% were Child C. Etiology of cirrhosis in patients were found 41,8% viral hepatitis, 22,3% cyriptogenic, 20,6% alcohol, 6,3 % primary biliary cirrhosis, 3% non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, 1,8% overlap, 1,4% autoimmune hepatitis, 3% other reasons.The most frequent complications in patients with cirrhosis of the top 5 percent rate, respectively; 70.3% splenomegali, 67.9% ascites, 59.8%esophageal varices,49.9%hypersplenism and hematological disordersand 17%, hepatic encephalopathy. CONCLUSİON:The major etiology of liver cirrhosis in our region are respectively chronic hepatitis B, alcohol, chronic hepatitis C. Cryptogenic cirrhosis rate over the years has increased while reducing the rate of NASH.Esophageal varices, ascites and hepatic encephalopathy, severe complications such as increased significantly over the years the number of patients diagnosed with cirrhosis of the development.
