Investigation of antibacterial properties of boron doped NiMnSb shape memory alloys

Abstract (EN)
In this study, shape memory alloys with chemical composition Ni50Mn35.8-xSb11B3.2+x (x=0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 % at.) were produced by arc melting method and Ni50Mn35.8Sb11B3.2, Ni50Mn35.6Sb11B3.4, Ni50Mn35.4Sb11B3.6, Ni50Mn35.2Sb11B3.8, Ni50Mn35.0Sb11B4.0 alloys were assigned the codes C0, C1, C2, C3, and C4, respectively. Some physical properties and antibacterial properties of these shape memory alloys were investigated. It was determined that the alloys prepared in scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) measurements showed a homogeneous chemical distribution. It was determined that the alloys, which were X-rayed at room temperature, had 10M and 4M microstructures representing the martensite phase. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to determine the phase transformation temperatures and thermodynamic parameters of the alloys. It was determined that the e/a ratio decreased with the decrease in the Mn ratio of the alloy and the increase in the boron ratio, and accordingly the phase transformation temperatures decreased significantly. In addition, it was determined that there was a decrease in the enthalpy values required for the phase transformation depending on the changing chemical structure. In the study conducted with Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, it was observed that these alloys were sensitive to these bacteria and prevented the growth of microorganisms.
