Perspective of the family phenomenon of individuals with divorced parents and spouse selection criteria

In this study, which deals with the view of individuals with divorced parents to the family phenomenon and spouse selection criteria, interviews were conducted with 20 participants residing in Osmaniye. In the thesis, which was planned as a qualitative research, phenomenological design was used and in-depth interview and observation techniques were used. The data obtained were analyzed through thematic content analysis. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the family order experienced affects the people's view of the family phenomenon and the choice of spouse. A child who grows up in a family environment where unhealthy communication techniques are used, where there is no peace, happiness and trust, and where he is exposed to conflicts; While describing the family phenomenon, he emphasizes the concept of support. Because the lack of parents experienced as a result of divorce negatively affects the support mechanism of the person. Additionally, individuals with divorced parents; Although they have difficulty in starting a family, they think more about the possibility of divorce if they get married in the future. The reason for their parents' divorce becomes an important factor in the choice of spouses of individuals. In addition, family order also affects the level of seeing oneself as a partner in the future and the definition of an ideal partner. While individuals complete their psychosexual development, their relationship with their parents also affects their choice of spouse. As a result, having divorced parents causes individuals to see the option of divorce more naturally and also affects the choice of spouse. For this reason, in order to reduce the intergenerational effect of divorce, the individual-family-society relationship should be followed closely as per the system theory.
