Nature in Buket Uzuner's novels

Throughout history, man's relationship with nature has been shaped by pretics such as integration, victory, harmony, and incompatibility. In recent times, the paradox that emerges with mostly caring about the existence of nature on the one hand and destroying nature on the other hand draws attention. The destruction of the natural habitat in which man lives day by day has reached such important dimensions that it cannot be ignored. Although man has been made superior to other living things with his will, he will bring about his own sad end by not claiming his own will. The development of technology, population growth, increasing demand for needs and psychological dissatisfaction of individuals have been the beginning of a rapid urbanization process. Migration from village to city has accelerated. The culmination of this is the developments in the field of industry. Destruction of forests, exploitation of animals, and seeing nature as a property have revealed environmental problems. The dimensions of this distorted relationship between man and nature has been one of the primary themes of literature. Literary writers aim to awaken environmental awareness in the reader by processing nature and the problems in nature in their works. These stances of nature literature in literature have been an effective ground for Ecocriticism. Especially in recent years, the number of literary works in which nature sensitivity is brought to the fore has increased. While the expression of nature sensitivity with environmental sensitivity constitutes the basis of literary works, different social problems have started to be discussed on this ground. At this point, the feminist understanding has also begun to be processed in literary works knitted with environmental sensitivity. Feminism, which mainly focuses on the gender equality thesis, is a multidimensional theory. She emerges as a counter-defender of the patriarchal mentality that positions women's place in society and the factors that give rise to this mentality. Feminist theory, which moves to liberate women from traditional forms, is a movement that takes action to break down the taboos on gender inequality. From past to present, the feminist approach, which has made an effort to protect 'women' and 'women's rights', has come a long way. This movement rebelled against the masculine thought that used the purely biological differences that separated women from men against women and became the number one companion of women. Feminist theory, which struggles for women's liberation in sociological, political and ethical fields, is pregnant with many movements. In this context, another area has emerged that fosters environmental criticism. This field is ecofeminism, which identifies nature and woman. Buket Uzuner is one of the writers who deals with nature sensitivity in her works. It is also seen that this sensitivity of the author sometimes works in a feminist framework. For this reason, it is seen that nature and women are discussed together in Buket Uzuner's works. In this study, Buket Uzuner's novels will be examined on the basis of nature. The study, which is built on this basis, will be expanded by adding the feminist perspective on which the author deals with this issue in his works. The first part of our study is the introduction. In this section, a general design of nature is mentioned. In the second part, the relationship between human and nature is discussed with literature. In the third chapter, the life, art and works of Buket Uzuner will be discussed. In the fourth chapter, the elements of nature in the novels of the author will be determined. In the fifth part of our study, an overview will be presented in an ecocritical context. Finally, the conclusion section will be prepared based on these sections.
