Çağdaş müslüman alilerin laiklik üzerindeki konumukarşılaştırmalı analitik çalışma

This thesis deals with the attitude of four contemporary Muslim scholars regarding the system of government in Islam, especially vis-à-vis the western notion of secularism. The research focuses on four prominent figures from different intellectual backgrounds, two Sunnis and two Shiites. The former side is represented by Sayyid Qutb and Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi, while the latter side is represented by Mohammad Mahdi Shamsuddin and Dr. Adel Daher. These Muslim intellectuals have been directly involved in discussions on the issue of governance in Islam in a number of their works and have devoted some of their writings on secularism. These works will be examined in the light of works that have been recently published in Western academia such as the works of Talal Asad and Sabah Mahmood. The approach used in this research is analytical. The views of these intellectuals on governance in Islam and secularism are portrayed with quotations from their works or speeches. Since the so-called Arab Spring, issues and problems have been raised about the position of Islam vis-à-vis modern governments. The most important issue discussed in this context was secularism. Some people argue that Islam has no longer sees secularism as a great problem. There are many individuals in Muslim societies who think there is a real role for secularism to play in the modern world, whereas others have protested the position of reconciling Islam with secular thought. So, this research revolves around the question of "Does Islam actually have a problem with secularism?"
