Cengiz Çekil in the context of contemporary Turkish installation art

Contemporary art, which has started to show its existence since the 1960's, is a rebellion against modernism. This understanding of art, which defends innovations and differences by questioning the traditional understanding of art, has managed to influence the whole world. It has led to the formation of many new movements and has allowed artists to produce their works in every way. The Installation, which emerged as a means of expression among these movement, emerged with the concept of "Ready-made" put forward by Marcel Duchamp. This concept, which includes ready-made objects, is based on the idea that any ordinary object can be a work of art in the field of art. The important thing in this current is how and in what way the object will be placed in the work. Therefore, the concept of space has emerged. Space and object are two concepts that cannot be considered separately in installation. Making a connection between the object they chose and the place where they will display it, the artists had the opportunity to convey their thoughts to the audience with any material that came to their mind, instead of using paints and brushes. By exhibiting their works indoors or outdoors, they also included their audiences in their works. The installation, which is also very popular in Turkey, is frequently featured in the works of Turkish artists. Cengiz Çekil, who produces words in this field and is among the pioneers in introducing the installation to Turkey, is a great artist who has made his name known frequently with his successful works. In this study; The emergence of the installation was discussed and the works of Cengiz Çekil, who produced works in this field, were examined in detail and analyzed.
