Abstract (EN)

Technological innovations, the increase in internet usage, and advancements in information and communication technologies (ICT) are transforming every aspect of our lives. Particularly, the ability to exchange large amounts of data and information quickly and inexpensively through cloud-based processes has accelerated the development of the digital economy and digital platforms. Digital platforms have become an integral part of our daily lives and have rapidly influenced the working world. In both developed and developing countries, businesses and consumers have easily embraced this transformation as services and products can be delivered more affordably and efficiently. Digital platforms have a significant impact on various sectors, especially in the economic and social realms. The widespread adoption of digital platforms, especially expanding their global reach through the internet, has paved the way for the emergence of digital labor platforms. Digital labor platforms offer new markets for businesses and income-generating opportunities for workers, including those previously outside the labor market. These platforms not only bring changes to business organization and processes but also alter the relationship between workers and businesses. Digital labor platforms change the traditional working and wage system and offer a new working order such as flexible working hours, temporary jobs and per-task wages. Digital labor platforms consist of a tripartite structure, involving the platform, the worker, and the employer. Therefore, the advantages and challenges brought about by digital labor platforms differ among platform providers, employers, and platform workers. Platform providers and employers generally benefit from this system by achieving positive outcomes and profitability. Platform workers, on the other hand, gain advantages such as additional income, entrepreneurship opportunities, autonomy, and flexibility in working hours. However, it is observed that the challenges faced by platform workers outweigh the advantages they obtain. Platform workers encounter various issues, including employment status, job and income security, unionization, social security, and occupational health and safety concerns. This study aims to address the implications of digital labor platforms on the labor market.
