The effect of violence against women in working life on job stress and job satisfaction of women

Abstract (EN)

Violence against women that is becoming a global problem and increasingly, in addition to creating obstacles in the social space, it has also become a phenomenon that causes permanent damage to working life. At its core, this phenomenon, which includes gender inequality arising from the differentiation of fundamental rights granted to women and men and the exercise of these rights, is mostly due to gender-related discrimination. Violence against women, which is parallel to the general causes and effects of violence, is seen to reach significant dimensions in working life as discussed in the scope of this research and produces results related to the concepts of job stress and job satisfaction, which are known to have both individual and organizational effects. Therefore, there is a need to research the effects of violence against women behaviors and these behaviors on concepts related to the employee and the organization, such as job stress and job satisfaction, which have increased significantly in working life. The current thesis study carried out in this direction aims to examine the violent behaviors exposed to by private sector female employees based on the types, frequency of occurrence and perpetrators of violence and to examine the effects of these behaviors on job stress and job satisfaction. The sample of the study consist of 194 women employees which is working at different business lines in private sector. Related question groups were asked to these participants for demographic data and general violence data, and the general work stress scale and job satisfaction scale were used to measure stress and job satisfaction in connection with violence. According to the results of the analysis of the data obtained in the study, it was determined that the types of violence that female employees are most exposed to are emotional pressure, intimidation and verbal violence, respectively. In the analysis of the relationship between violence and demographic characteristics, it was concluded that there is a significant difference between marital status and educational status and exposure to violence. Also, according to the analyses conducted, the stress levels of female employees exposed to workplace violence are higher than those who are not exposed to it, and their job satisfaction levels are lower than those who are not exposed to violence.
