The problem of freedom at work: The new borders of surveillance and privacy

In this research, it is explained that human is exposed to surveillance in their daily life by an invisible power. As a consequence of this, it is possible to claim that the privacy of people is violated by surveillance technologies and it is called Panopticon in the foreign literature. Violation of privacy can be seen in diversified fields with different examples. However, in this research it is discussed especially, in the information society?s working life to be kept under control. The reason of this, surveillance practices are experienced with higher ratio as the time passes.Surveillance practices become widespread because of the technological improvement and the globalization. By the help of these, the social structure undergoes a change and information society is raised. In information societies, the availability of the information has a crucial importance. Computers and the Internet are the indispensible tools of electronic monitoring system to attain information. On the other hand, they are primary tools which can be used to violate privacy of a person in the information society that the borders between private life and the working life are unclear. In this context, almost all of the citizens of a society are surrounded by different surveillance technologies.It is possible to conclude that the people who expect more freedom by the help of technological improvement and the globalization are subject to modern Panopticon in the information society, as compared with before.
