İnterpretation of treatment efficacy of clinoptilolite in dogs with canine parvoviral enteritis

In the present study the aim was to research the therapy efficiency of clinoptilolite in dogs naturally infected with parvoviral enteritis. The material of the present study involved dogs of various breed and of both sexes reffered with haemorrihagic diarrhea, vomiting, depression, general disorder in condition and diagnosed within parvoviral enteritis by fecal antigen test. Parvovirus infected dogs were enrolled into 2 groups (n=10, each). First group recieved standart supportive treatment for 7 days, second group received standart supportive treatment and clinoptilolite orally at a dosage of 400 mg/day/per dog within the same period. Blood sample were withdrawn from dogs before and 1. ,2. ,4. and 7. days after applications and complete blood counts, blood gas, PT, APTT values were analyzed. Sera samples were evaluated for CRP, Hp, Cp, ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, CK, BUN, CREA, TP, ALB, TBIL, InBİIL, GLU, Fe, Cu, Zn, Na and K levels. SPSS pocket programme was used for, statistical evaluation of interpreted alterations among dogs. It was suggested that clinoptilolite diminished total clinical scoring by accelerating clinical recovery and was found to have positive influence on ALB and total protein concentrations for therapy of parvoviral enteritis. Those aforementioned data suggested that among dogs with parvoviral enteritis standart therapy accompanying clinoptilolite at a dosage of 400 mg/per dog for 7 days might be additive to therapy and might be a reference to further studies performed.
