Özet (EN)

Since our planet doesn't have unlimited resources, the importance of using the existing resources carefully becomes increasingly evident over time. That is why this thesis investigates the optimization of structures using nature-inspired algorithms - specifically focusing on Genetic Algorithm (GA)- by utilizing Visual Programming (VP) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools to get minimum-weighed structure while satisfying stress and displacement constraints. While GAs have been extensively studied in the past, the integration of GAs with VP has remained relatively unexplored. Thus, this research also aims to make an integration between them to use the capabilities of Dynamo, Revit, and RSA which will provide the best possible design outcome. The research methodology involves employing Dynamo to create parametric trusses, calculating their fitness values by using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results, choosing the best solution based on fitness values, and creating a new population using GA. For FEA, RSA software has been employed to get stresses, displacements, and the weight of the structure. To further enhance the proposed methodology and demonstrate the advantages of BIM, the optimized model is imported into Revit, enabling the user to analyze aspects such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), cost details, etc. The outcomes of this thesis offer a valuable understanding of combining VP, GAs, and BIM environments for optimization purposes. The findings not only demonstrate the feasibility of combining these tools in the real world but also emphasize that this integration provides the opportunity to increase both structural efficiency and sustainability factors.
