Abstract (EN)
There are many sources of radiation in nature. All living creatures are exposed to the radiation emitted from these sources. One of the reasons why plants contain naturally occurring radionuclides is that they take these radionuclides from the soil through their roots. Fertilizers that are used to grow plants more efficiently and contain natural radioactive elements in their structures cause an increase in the concentration of radioactivity in plants. In this thesis study, activity concentrations for different plant and fertilized soil samples planted with various organic and chemical fertilizers in Büyükbucaklı village of Ağva town of Şile district in Istanbul province were determined using the Gamma Spectroscopy System. The annual effective dose values exposed by the people living in this region, the absorbed exposure of the living creatures and the annual effective doses were calculated. The transfer factor of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs radionuclides from soil to plant was calculated.
