Studies of nuclear power plant in Turkey with environment and strategic perspective

As population and industrial production increase rapidly in the world and technological products are increasingly used, energy deficit is emerging and more energy is needed. The fact that fossil fuel reserves have been proven in the world for a century is leading countries to increase their energy resources. The fact that countries have different geographical, economic, technological opportunities and limited underground resources puts the alternative to producing energy with nuclear power plants on the agenda. In developing countries in meeting the energy needs of Turkey and with a population of 81 million it is about 70% dependent on foreign supplies. Turkey is one of five countries with no nuclear power plants in the G20 countries. According to the data of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, electricity consumption in 2017 was about 300 billion kWh. As of October 2018, 454 nuclear power plants are operating in 30 countries and many are in developed countries. The most important question in the nuclear energy use debate is why the majority of countries with nuclear power plants are developed countries. continued since the 1950s that the idea of setting up a nuclear power plant in Turkey, laid foundation of Mersin Akkuyu in 2018 could be implemented. Nuclear power plants have some accidents in the past and there are public concerns about the disposal or final storage of nuclear wastes, but nuclear power plants continue to be used in the world, new ones are being built and planned. In this study, no country in the world where nuclear power plants and energy ratio are studied, aimed to investigate the effects of environmental and strategic establishment in Turkey. In terms of energy and natural resources which have limited opportunities to meet the energy needs in line with the principles of sustainable development in Turkey and focused on energy security and the necessity of nuclear power plants be done, reached by the latest technology to make alternative choices and the importance of the strategic aspects of nuclear power plants do.
