Investigation and evaluation of the impact of environmental and project management risks on construction works

Abstract (EN)

This research examines environmental and project management risks arising in construction projects and evaluates their relative significance. Risk factors determined through a comprehensive literature review were assessed by means of a questionnaire survey administered to engineers, project managers, and academics. Within the survey, participants evaluated each risk according to its probability of occurrence and its potential impact on project outcomes. The obtained data were processed using Microsoft Excel, where risk scores were derived from the combined likelihood and impact values, and the identified risks were subsequently grouped through a color-coded risk matrix. The results show that unfavorable climatic conditions and the location of construction sites in close proximity to urban areas represent the most critical environmental risk factors. Conversely, project management risks associated with cost control, deficiencies in planning, contract administration, and subcontractor management were identified as more prevalent. Overall, the findings suggest that a structured assessment of environmental and project management risks facilitates effective risk prioritization and supports the reduction of delays, cost overruns, and quality-related losses in construction projects.
