Abstract (EN)
As far as we know there is not enough information about the life of Major Charles Boyd, who descended from the county of Kilmarnock in Scotland. On the other hand, the education, the outing and the work he wrote for the knowledge of Turkishness are worthy. Boyd has given a name to his work "Türk Tercümanı ya Türk Lisânın Sarf-ı Cedîd" in Turkish, "The Turkish Interpreter or A New Grammar of The Turkish Language" in English. In this work, the traditional sorting, like other transcription monuments, has been determined, according to which the grammatical parts are included first and the transcription marks are specified at the beginning of the grammar part. Following the four chapters of linguistic information, the work includes dialogues in the streets and shopping places, two fable examples, religious texts, quotations from the Bible. Following the corrections chapter, an examination of the Turkish structure of the texts given as an example is presented. As far as Major Charles Boyd's preface is concerned; the purpose of writing this work is to strengthen the rapidly developing friendly relations between the two states in recent times, to help merchants in their work, to help travelers express themselves in the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean coasts, to help those who want to learn Turkish and as an easy and simple introduction to the people who will learn Turkish.
