The impact of nationalism on foreign policy in the people's republic of China

Abstract (EN)

It is highly agreed that there is multi-polar system in contemporary World. Hence, there are many powers that lead the international affairs. People's Republic of China is one of them. Particularly reform and opening up strategies made by Deng Xiaoping in 1978, have been used in 1990s. Thus, China has gained confidence in economy and foreign affairs fields and has become major power in international relations. It can be said that there is a lot of instruments leading to China's foreign policy. Chinese nationalism is one of them. This study investigates that how nationalism has emerged in China and affected on the foreign affairs. The research period starts with the birth of natonalism in 1840s and focuses on the time 70 years line between 1949-2019. The research excludes the events related to nationalism in internal context; but includes those related to foreign affairs and strategies. The study demonstrates that nationalism is an important tool for Chinese foreign policy and has got a determining role in this field.
