Examination of social studies textbooks (4,5,6,7) within the framework of gender equality

In this study, the achievements, topics and visuals in the social studies textbooks were examined within the framework of gender equality and the current situation was tried to be determined. The research is limited to the social studies textbooks taught in the 2021-2022 academic year. Within the scope of document review, which is one of the qualitative research methods, a total of 7 textbooks from 4-5-6 and 7th grades were examined. Content analysis was performed in data collection. In the textbooks examined, the frequency of the words "female" and "man" according to gender, the frequency of individuals taking part in occupations according to their gender, the frequency of individuals taking place as scientists according to their gender, the frequency of individuals taking place in visuals according to their gender, the frequency of individuals taking place in professions according to their gender, The frequency of participation in the fields was examined within the framework of gender equality. According to the findings obtained in the study, it has been seen that men are quantitatively more visible in texts and images, women are generally included in certain occupational groups and more than men in professions, and female scientists find less space than male scientists. As a result, it has been determined that women find less place in textbooks than men.
