Aesthetics of the ugly and analysis of Ahmet Haşim's poems in terms of the aesthetics of the ugly

In our research, the concept of ugliness, which has been waiting to be defined and analyzed for centuries in aesthetic thought, and how ugliness emerges and its reflection in works of literature are examined. From the aesthetic ideas of Democritus, Socrates, Platon and Aristoteles to Baumgarten's first work in which he evaluated the concept of aesthetics from a theoretical scale to Karl Rosenkranz's characterization of ugliness as an aesthetic category, ugliness is not a subject dealt with within aesthetic philosophy. Aesthetics became autonomous with Kant's definition of aesthetic judgment. From this point on in aesthetic studies, the relationship and attitude between subject and object constitute aesthetic judgment. In the first part of our study, the key concepts of aesthetic philosophy and aesthetic categories were emphasized. In the second part of our thesis, the life of Ahmet Hâşim, one of the founding figures of modern Turkish poetry, was analysed from a biographical, poetic and psychological perspective. In this part, we searched for the signs of ugliness in Hâşim's life, the subject of ugliness that he became obsessed with, and the projections of ugliness as an aesthetic element in his works. During our search, we tried to reach the social, economic and psychological foundations that affect the poet and his creative process. In the third section, we tried to identify the points of intersection with the aesthetics of ugliness by considering the formal, semantic and linguistic qualities of Ahmet Hâşim's poems, which we focus on as an aesthetic object. In addition, we tried to identify examples of ugliness in poems. In the conclusion section, we conveyed our findings in the light of the findings we encountered in our research, in which we adopted the qualitative research method. Finally, we can say that we have tried to understand the Aesthetics of the Ugly by expanding the scope and applying the Aesthetics of the Ugly in the poems of Ahmet Hâşim, who turned ugliness into a theme in his life.
