The role of parents in child's religious education

Every community wants to hand down all of their earthly or spiritual values to the next generations. We want to transfer and sustain our religious values which are one of the spiritual values of ours. The first place where this transmission happens is family. Family plays a huge role in formation of their child's religious personality and morality with transfering their own beliefs and behaviors to them. A child's religious personality is shaped by family's religious and moral identity. In this work the author researched that how parents affect their child's religious education, formation and embodiment of their religious beliefs, attitudes and behaviors and how the religious behaviours of the parents reflect to the child . The scale of this research has been made by the third grades of primary school in Ağrı. In order to represent this scale and for the explanation of the family's role on the child's religious education, a survey conducted to the children who are third grade students and have not take any religion class at eleven schools such as Cumhuriyet School, Şehit Hikmet School, Mustafa Kemal İlkokulu, Şeyh Edebali School, Osman Gazi School, Adımova School, Çevre Mahallesi School, 15 Temmuz School, Karabulak School, Cemile Yassıboğa School, Ahmed-i Hani School which are in Ağrı's center or urban areas like Hamur and Doğubayazıt. This work is very important because it gives opportunity to annalise how children's religious beliefs and behaviours are affected from their parents, and while parents are transfering their religious heritage to their children how those parents' educational level, family structre, economical conditions, the way and frequency of answering the children's questions and frequency of attending religious rituals or ceremonies with their children affects the formation of religious identity of the kids via annalising the third grade students of those schools which are mentioned above and their families.
