Pain beliefs and influencing factors of parents of childrenadmitted to the pediatric emergency department with thecomplaint of pain

Understanding the factors that influence pain beliefs is crucial for managing pain, a prevalent issue. The objective of this study was to assess the pain beliefs of parents whose children sought care at the Pediatric Emergency Department with complaints of pain, as well as the factors influencing these beliefs. This descriptive study involved 350 parents selected through random sampling, who had brought their children to the Konya City Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department due to pain complaints. Data were collected using a information form for descriptive characteristics and a pain beliefs scale. The average "Pain beliefs scale score" for the participating parents was 2.5±0.78, while the "Psychological beliefs score" averaged 2.08±1.07, and the "Organic beliefs score" averaged 2.78±0.86. It was determined that parents' psychological beliefs were influenced by factors such as gender, education level, place of residence, and economic status. Additionally, the organic beliefs of parents were found to be influenced by the number of children they brought to the hospital, whether their child had a chronic disease, and the status of treatment application. Furthermore, the total score on the pain beliefs scale was affected by parents' level of education, place of residence, and whether their child had a chronic disease. In this study, it was identified that certain socio-demographic characteristics had an impact on parents' pain beliefs, underscoring the importance of evaluating studies on parents' pain beliefs across different regions with consideration for cultural factors.In beliefs of parents and it was concluded that studies to evaluate the pain beliefs of parents should be evaluated by including cultural factors in different regions.
