Analysis of the values of social studies curriculum in children's magazines

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to reveal the 18 values in the Social Studies Curriculum and how much they are included in children's magazines published in Turkey. The research was carried out within the framework of the document review method which is one of qualitative research methods. The data was obtained from a total of 24 of 4 different children's magazines with the highest number of readers in Turkey. In the study, the data was analyzed by content analysis method. As a result of the study, it was concluded that children's magazines published in our country can be used as an educational tool for values education. In the study, the most frequent values included in children's magazines were determined as; the values of science, aesthetics, sensitivity, diligence and love. Children's magazines, on the other hand, included the values of justice, independence, savings, equality and patriotism less. The most common values in the journal "TRT Çocuk" are aesthetic, scientific and sensitivity values; the least common values are patriotism, justice and saving values. In the journal "Bilim Çocuk", the most emphasis is placed on the values of science, aesthetics and love; the least on justice, independence and savings; in the journal "Araştırmacı Çocuk", "science, aesthetics and diligence" are the most common values, while "independence, justice and patriotism" are the least common values; while the most common values in National Geographic Kids are science, sensitivity and diligence, the least are seen as the values of justice, independence and patriotism.
