Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study was to adapt Child/Home Early Language & Literacy Observation (CHELLO), developed by Susan B. Neuman and her friends (2007) into Turkish as 'Çocuk/Ev Erken Dil ve Okuryazarlık Gözlem Aracı' (literally translated name). In Turkey, there were no scale purposing to investigate 0-3 year-old children's literacy materials and language environment. The scale is an observation form and important as it courts early childhood period researchers while passing from quantitative to qualitative research. In this researchthe descriptive research model was applied. The sample of the study was 51 classrooms serving 0-3 years-old. In order to provide language validity, 5 language specialist translated English form into Turkish then reverse translation was made. Two language versions of the form was sended to the field spacialists and terms which were found appropriate by majority of them taken in the form. There were two factors and 35 dimensions in the scale. At the end of the language validity process number of the dimensions in the scale didn't change. Content validity index was determined .88 for literacy environment subfactor and .75 for group/ family subscale. These result showed us that there were no need for excluding any item. As a result of reliability analysis, Cronbach Alpha test coefficients were .87 for the group/ family subfactor and .72 for the literacy environment control subfactor. Reliability coefficients for the subfactors and between graders reliability values for each subfactor were .99 and 1. Scale was accepted as reliable and valid. Key Words: Language, Literacy, Educational Institutions with caring centre, 0-3 ages
