Özet (EN)
The purpose of this study is to examine the texts in geography textbooks for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, used in secondary education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education during the 2022-2023 academic year, in terms of core values outlined in the 2018 geography curriculum. The study employs a qualitative research method, specifically the document analysis model. The sample consists of four geography textbooks, one from each grade level (9th through 12th), prepared according to the 2018 geography curriculum and accessible digitally on the Education and Information Network (EBA) of the Ministry of National Education publishers. The data collection instrument used in the study is the table titled "Values and Attitudes and Behaviors Related to Values in Renewed Curricula" found in the document "Our Work on Curriculum Renewal and Changes" published by the Board of Education on July 18, 2017. Descriptive analysis method was employed for data analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that the core values most prevalent in the texts of geography textbooks across grades 9 to 12 are "responsibility," "patriotism," and "self-control." Conversely, the core values least represented were found to be "patience" and "honesty." Furthermore, disparities were identified in the distribution of core values both across different grade levels and within the same grade level. Based on these findings, the study recommends that values in geography textbooks should be more evenly distributed and supported with more visuals. Additionally, given the significant role of teachers in instilling values, the study suggests that teachers should receive more training in value education.
