Adaptation of the multidimensional nursing generations scale to Turkish

The research was carried out methodologically in order to adapt the Multidimensional Nursing Generations Scale to Turkish and to test its validity and reliability in nursing. The research was conducted between December 2019 - June 2021. Research data were collected from 447 volunteer nurses working in five hospitals, including a Ministry of Health Hospital, a university hospital and three private hospitals operating in Bursa city center between December 2019 and May 2020. The original form of "Personal Information Form" and "Multidimensional Nursing Generations Scale" were used as data collection tools. Ethics committee permission and institutional permissions were obtained for the research, and the scale was made ready for application before starting data collection. For this purpose, language equivalence with the translation-back translation technique, and content equivalence with the expert panel were tested with a pilot application in terms of intelligibility. Data obtained after the actual application, percentage and frequency distribution, explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient, student t test, Kaiser-Meyer Olkin (KMO) Sampling Adequacy Analysis, Bartlett's Sample Size Test, Varimax Orthogonal Rotation, Scree Plot test, Shapiro-Wilks test, z tests. The scale, which was adapted after the evaluation of the data, showed a structure with 36 items, explaining 52 of the total variance, and a 4-factor structure with an eigenvalue above 1.00: "working tendency", "intergenerational conflict", "patient safety" and "cooperation with those in its own generation"; It was determined that item total score correlation values were between .333 and .588, factor loads were between .335 and .861, the level of discrimination and concordance were high, and Cronbach's alpha values ranged between .766 and .929. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the scale adapted to Turkish culture is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to determine the differences between generations in nurses' working environments.
